Overview

At SecondEdition we sell factory seconds and pre-loved branded items. We describe every item honestly using our condition grading system and provide clear photos before you buy. We want you to feel confident shopping with us — and if something genuinely isn't right, we'll always do our best to sort it.

This policy applies to all purchases made through our website. It does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Our promise: If an item arrives not as described, damaged in transit, or faulty — we will refund you in full, including any delivery costs, no questions asked.

Return Eligibility

You may return most items within 14 days of receiving your order, provided the following conditions are met:

✓ Returnable if...
  • Item is unworn and unwashed
  • All original tags are still attached
  • Item is in the same condition as received
  • Item is not as described on the listing
  • Item arrived damaged or faulty
  • Wrong item was sent
  • You've changed your mind (within 14 days)
✕ Not returnable if...
  • Item has been worn, washed or altered
  • Tags have been removed
  • Item shows new damage not present on delivery
  • Return is requested after 14 days
  • Item is listed as non-returnable (e.g. hygiene items)
  • Item was purchased as a final sale
Grade B & C items: Please read the condition notes carefully before buying. Minor imperfections described in the listing are part of the item and are not grounds for return unless they are significantly worse than described.

Exceptions & Exclusions

The following items cannot be returned unless they are faulty or not as described:

  • Underwear and swimwear — for hygiene reasons
  • Pierced jewellery and earrings — for hygiene reasons
  • Items marked "Final Sale" — clearly indicated on the listing at time of purchase
  • Items that have been personalised or customised
  • Pet accessories that have been used — for hygiene reasons

How to Return

Returning an item is straightforward. Just follow these steps:

Contact Us First

Email us at hello@secondedition.co.uk with your order number and the reason for your return. Please include photos if the item is faulty or not as described. We aim to respond within one working day.

We Send a Return Label

Once we've approved your return, we'll email you a return label. Please note that return postage costs are the responsibility of the customer unless the item is faulty, not as described, or the wrong item was sent.

Package Your Item Securely

Please pack the item carefully in its original packaging where possible, or in suitable packaging to prevent damage in transit. Attach the return label clearly to the outside.

Drop Off at a Courier Point

Drop your parcel at the nearest collection point indicated on your return label. Keep your proof of postage receipt until your refund has been processed.

Refund Processed

Once we receive and inspect the item, we will process your refund within 5 working days. You'll receive a confirmation email when it's been issued.

Refunds

Refunds are issued to the original payment method used at checkout. Please allow the following timescales once we have confirmed your refund:

  • Bank transfer / debit card: 3–5 working days
  • Credit card: 5–10 working days depending on your card provider
  • PayPal: 1–3 working days

If your item arrived damaged in transit or was not as described, we will refund the full order value including your original delivery charge. For change-of-mind returns, your original delivery charge is not refunded.

Please note: We are a small independent business and currently process payments manually after confirming orders. If you paid via bank transfer, refunds will be returned to the same account within 5 working days of us receiving your return.

Exchanges

Because our stock is made up of individual one-off items — factory seconds and pre-loved pieces — we are often unable to offer a direct exchange for the same item in a different size or colour.

If you would like to exchange for a different item, we recommend:

  • Return the original item for a full refund
  • Place a new order for the item you'd prefer

If you're unsure about sizing before you buy, please feel free to contact us — we're happy to provide additional measurements or photos on any item.

Faulty or Incorrect Items

In the unlikely event that your item arrives damaged, faulty, or is not the item you ordered, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we will resolve the issue promptly.

Full remedy for faulty or wrong items: You will receive a full refund of the item price plus original delivery cost. Where an item is faulty, not as described, or the wrong item was sent, return postage will be covered by us.

  • Your order number
  • A description of the issue
  • Clear photos showing the fault or damage

Condition & Grading

All items on SecondEdition are graded using our three-tier condition system. It is important to read and understand these grades before purchasing, as minor imperfections noted in the grade description are a known and accepted feature of the item — not grounds for return.

  • Grade A — Excellent: Near-perfect condition with minimal or no visible signs of wear. Factory seconds with imperceptible cosmetic flaws.
  • Grade B — Good: Visible minor imperfections such as small marks, slight fading or manufacturing irregularities. Fully wearable and functional. Priced to reflect condition.
  • Grade C — Fair: More noticeable wear or factory defects. Clearly described and heavily discounted. Great for everyday use.

If an item's actual condition is significantly worse than the grade and description stated in the listing, this is grounds for a return and full refund. If you have any questions about a specific item's condition before purchasing, please contact us.

Your Consumer Rights

This policy is in addition to, and does not limit, your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

  • Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel an order within 14 days of receiving it and receive a full refund, regardless of the reason.
  • Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If they are not, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.
  • If a fault appears within 30 days of purchase, you are entitled to a full refund. (This is your statutory right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and applies regardless of our 14-day returns window.)
  • If a fault appears within 6 months of purchase, we must prove the item was not faulty at the time of sale — the burden of proof is on us.
